How long have you been in your industry?24 years
Why did you choose your industry?I chose public relations because it blends creativity with strategy. I’ve loved writing since I was a kid, and PR gives me the space to use that skill to solve problems, influence narratives, and elevate voices. It allows me to make an impact while doing something I’ve always been passionate about.
Who are your typical clients?My typical clients include nonprofits, government agencies, and small businesses. I also provide executive communication support and crisis counsel for leaders and teams navigating complex, high-stakes scenarios.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I love that PR gives me the chance to be both creative and strategic. Every day is different. Whether I’m crafting a campaign, managing a crisis, or helping a leader communicate their vision, I get to help people connect in meaningful, lasting ways.
What are common problems you see?A major issue is waiting until a crisis hits to communicate. Many organizations lack proactive communication planning, especially when it comes to internal messaging and crisis preparedness. I often help clients build that foundation before they need it.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Treat communication as a strategy, not an afterthought. Bring your communicator to the table early. The right message, shared at the right time, can make or break your organization’s reputation. And don’t underestimate the power of internal communications—they’re just as critical as your external messaging.
When is your busy season?While the nature of PR means things can heat up anytime, spring and fall tend to be the busiest seasons due to campaign rollouts, fiscal year transitions, and annual planning needs.
What keeps you up at night?I think about the next big crisis and whether my clients are prepared. I also stay up thinking about how I can continue to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation for myself and the people I serve.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I market through social media, speaking engagements, storytelling, thought leadership, and workshops. Word of mouth has been huge, but sharing real results through case studies and content helps build trust and visibility.
How involved are you in the community?I mentor aspiring PR professionals, speak at universities, serve and and lead on a few nonprofit boards, lead workshops for small businesses and nonprofits. I’m passionate about giving back by helping others find and share their voice effectively.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?I have a heart for organizations that pour into young people and underserved communities. I'm especially drawn to those that focus on education, empowerment, and mentorship—spaces where communication plays a transformative role.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Master your writing and listening skills. Be curious. Stay ready to learn. PR is about relationships, reputation, and results—so be strategic, stay ethical, and always tell the truth. And above all, find your unique voice and use it.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I love being in nature, journaling, catching live music, and traveling. Writing is still one of my greatest joys—it’s how I reconnect with myself, process life, and stay creative.
