How long have you been in your industry?38 years
Why did you choose your industry?My father owned an Advertising Agency from 1964 to 1974 and he guided me toward the Advertising industry.
Who are your typical clients?Our typical clients are consumer centric marketers. More often than not we work with CPG manufacturers (Food, Healthcare) Retailers, Tourism, Travel & Entertainment sector and with Advertising Agency partners who need to augment their Media practice.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I've liked that the Advertising industry was a combination of Art and Science blended to try and understand consumer habits...and possibly affect those consumers with messaging.
What are common problems you see?In my opinion the common problems are issues that have always plagued the industry.
1) A lack of full transparency from many practicing marketers
2) Inconsistent measurement across the omni-channel Media ecosystem
3) Fragmentation, duplicity of content and services within the Media ecosystem
4) Advertising Fraud - Currently Digital Media has been fertile ground for illicit players
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Keep your goals and objectives clear, but your tactical strategies organic...things can change quickly; thus, a good Marketer must be able to pivot. Also, don't overly complicate your Marketing/Advertising. Keep in mind that great creative assets are only as good as the media plan that serves it, and a great media plan is only effective if great copy is served.
When is your busy season?We try to remain busy throughout the year, but 4Q tends to uptick often.
What keeps you up at night?Short deadlines.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?We have a website and try to be active on Linkedin. Also, we use professional word-of-mouth through our Roladex network.
How involved are you in the community?As a younger man I used to volunteer as a coach for YMCA Basketball and Track & Field in NJ.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Be honest and fully understand that Advertising is a service industry.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I enjoy outdoor sports, cooking and pretending to be a gardener.
